  1. Easy, games didn't always have shitty DLC, which make the base game shit without, I say ban DLC. Developers made complete games for decades, but they were corrupted by marketers and Corporate greed.

  2. Regarding the game design portion of the discussion: Yes, games from big companies (say World of Warcraft) are designed like he mentioned, created to be addictive. However, many small indie games still have the "quality over quantity" design, more like the Super Mario example he gave. Indie games are made by very few people who have a focused, creative vision for the game, and they bring it to fruition without a huge publisher interfering with the development.
