It was a bad call to call the cops on the little girl, but I can understand why some people might not confront their neighbors for things. Hear me out. I live in an apartment complex and I share a landing with 1 other apartment. This apartment had kids and a dog. The kids instead of throwing the poop in the dumpster would bring it back and put it outside their door on the ground. One day I saw with my own eyes the kids throwing the poop down the stairs instead of carrying it. It got all over the wall, the concrete and it stunk. And our stairs are not wide so the chances of rubbing up against it were very likely. I knocked on the door and told the dad what I saw asked them to take care of it in a very nice nonconfrontational way. I understand kids do dumb things and childhood is all about learning not to do dumb things. I thanked him and went inside. I don't know what the dad told the mom, but she came banging on my door like a crazy person and when I answered she called me every name in the book, told me it was mine, I don't have a dog, and for me to clean it up. I told her she didn't have to speak to me like this, and that I didn't have a dog. She wouldn't stop. I got fed up with her rage that I told her that if she didn't take care of her dogs mess I would report her to management and tell them how her dog bit my daughter. My daughter called their dog the demon dog because he bit her and gave her a massive bruise and broke the skin. We literally could not open our door when they had their dog on the stairs or the landing. We had to have a conversation about his vet visits and if he was up to date on his shots. I told her it would be fine as long as she didn't get an infection. I saw no sign of infection, and treated it at home. I felt like an AH when I threatened to report her dog to management, I didn't want to do it, the dog thought he was protecting his family and what in his mind is his territory. But she left me alone and cleaned up after her dog after that. And no I didn't report her dog, the threat accomplished it's goal. Now I don't want to confront anybody about anything. So in a way I get why some people that have had this happen to them might not want to deal with neighbor complaints. I don't think this lady should have called the police in this case though. When it involves kids a conversation should be tried first. If they get irate like my neighbor did, maybe call. It depends on what the complaint is. I didn't want to cause the kids any embarrassment in my case. I was a kid once too and didn't like being embarrassed. I think kids should be able to mess up and not be embarrassed about it, it's part of learning. I felt really bad for the girl that her mother made such a scene.
