  1. Joseph is absolutely correct. Rock climbers are addicted to their sport, like Joe is addicted to fighting and extreme exercise routines. Normal people don't do any of these things to extremes. I only know about rock climbing and sky diving, but the world is not right without them. Many of the rock climbers and sky divers I have met suffer from withdrawal symptoms of anger and depression without their drug of choice. I had to go through an intense, and prolonged, period of grief when I could no longer do these things.
I have found that the only antidote to my grief is yoga and meditation.
PS. Rock climbers are Not 'risk takers'. It's more of a 3 dimensional puzzle solving thing, whilst being in complete control of your body. A bit like vertical dancing.

  2. People like me will dystonia have to choices: painful lockup in all joints or dementia risk and a zombie existence. Add Parkinsonism, brain damage, corneal disease, complete solitude and poverty at a youngish age (turned 40 nov 5th) and life is hell
