  1. Love this conversation and some great points. But there are people who work incredibly hard who aren’t paid enough… nurses, teachers builders cleaners fire fighters etc. It’s not true that the harder you work the more you get paid.

  2. The largest "rapist" to america's standard of life is free marketeers like this guy and Reagan. Free markets is a neoliberal buzz word that exvuses unequal change. Out of here with that "markets are apart of nature" nonsense, markets are-were and always will be a GOVERNMENT program. We the people however are told its not our program to do with as we wish democratically.

  3. People asking for capitalism at every stage have forgotten. That they rely much on socialism for their survival.
I mean if you want to be punished for bad behaviour, companies should move out of usa and give all the jobs to Indian and Chinese because – 1. Free markets. You should be free to use your wealth as you see fit to create value. If markets are opened then they should be used.

    2. You should be punished for your bad behaviour and demanding higher wages and driving expenses in your country. Why should an independent buisness care about you.
    3. If supply and demand is everything, Remove control on prices of medicines and let the makers mark them 30 times their price because they can. Because demand is very high and they can do it.
You can get around it by inviting other companies in your market.
Remove governmental hurdles to foreign companies. Remove tarrifs. And let them give a competition to your inefficient companies. Let the market decide if their products are good or not.

I still Remeber how the free market angels got their panties twisted into a knot when Indian and Chinese paharma companies tried to enter USA. Because their products are as good on all metrics of measurement and a lot cheaper than American ones.
You know how they prevented them – by passing laws to stop them.
    So much for capitalism.

Those who think socialism is the way forward. You need to show me a country which has thrived successfully on socialist principles. Don't bring me examples of Nordic countries.
    1. They were mostly industrialised before they went full blown socialist.
    2. They have open markets.
    3. The huge bailout packages they received after world War 2. I would have loved to see them rebuilt alone. It's the capitalist who game them funds.
Every socialist country had imploded under its own weight, some went crazy and led to deaths of millions of people in violence. other like China, India, Vietnam, Sir Lanka, Bangladesh, started opening their markets, gradually started chipping away their socialist structures, and allowed capitalism to thrive. And today you can look at their charts. Their growth is impressive.
You know which of them is doing the best. China. Because it has authoritarian rule, which enforces absolute capitalism in its economy and absolute communism in its politics. So it paves a clear path for the companies to set up shop there. They get land, they get water, electricity, labour without hassles of unions etc. Unlike in democratic countries nobody is coming after these companies. Nobody is taking them to court, nobody is talking about their labour policies, nobody is talking about their environmental effects. They get a free run in the sandbox China created for them. And anybody who tries to questions them, the state takes care of that guy. And look at the results. The democracies like India, Bangladesh, Iran etc are slowly trudging alone. Finding consensus and bringing incremental change to go full blown capitalist.

All these countries have done incredible work on hunger, poverty alleviation, development of human indices in last few years of opening their markets than they have done in decades under socialism.

So capitalism does more for poor people that socialism ever can think of.

Bottom line : we cannot be completely socialist and completely capitalist. We need to be rational. Use them as tools and use them to our advantage. We like being the best and we like rewarding. But we also praise altruism we also believe that the strong should protect the weak. Our religions are based on it. So we cannot do away with socialism it's built into us. We need to find balance. And India, Iran, Vietnam, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Brazil are using this to grow.
You allow the top performers to do what they do best. Let them grow. Set some boundaries for them. And then let them play. Let them create wealth.
And then the govt job is to take some of that wealth and throw it into govt programmes which help people directly. Like water supply, electricity supply, food rations, toilet building, home building incentives, small buisness incentive. Badlscially the govt is not giving them hand outs. It's using that money to enable them to stand up on their own.
