Regarding the heart attack story. The reason DNRs are recommended is because by the time heart attacks occur, you've got a 1-10 chance of living to the hospital. If you manage to get resucitated, there's a 75% chance you'll be dead within twelve months.
Plus it's pretty traumatizing to watch paramedics destroy your loved ones chest cavity. It's a sound you'll never forget.
