You are taking texts completely out of context, and rejecting many, many texts in Scripture, directly telling you what happens when we die. Lazarus was also a good example for you, Jesus calls it a sleep…then the Bible says, we return to the dust, spirit returning to God refers to breath! Check the translation "roach" meaning breath, NOT your soul…Genesis 3 states clearly, that God took the dust, blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul!…the dead have nothing to do with anything happening under the sun…Jesus went to prepare a place for us, and when He returns, He will take us where He is (Jesus did not return yet)…Jesus also states that His reward is with Him when He returns, to give to every man as he deserves, not sooner, nor later, but on that day!…The Bible also talks about 2 resurrections, which I will not even go into here because you do not even understand the first one correctly…to dust you will return, is just another one…And I can give you about 2 pages worth of texts from Scripture similar to these statements, many found in Job for example…The dead know nothing…Paul was simply also referring to the state when we are with God, after getting a new body! NOTE: he did not say when this will take place in that statement. We should be very careful and not insert our own preconceived ideas into Scripture. Many will say now but wait, what about the thief on the cross. Well read that text again, and keep in mind, that Jesus did not go to heaven on that day when He said "I say to you today you will be with me in paradise". So, either all the overwhelming evidence and numerous texts in scripture are true, or you do not understand a handful of texts correctly. God does not contradict Himself! Again, we should not read into texts what is not there, inserting our own preconceived ideas or traditions! Context is also key! May God show you the truth on this topic.
