not sure if u allow links in the comments but a video you might like Joe is "alcoholic monkeys". I think they were just filming the monkeys for a nature documentary but they observed that a certain percentage of monkeys stealing drinks on a beach would ONLY finish stolen drinks if they had alcohol in them. It actually gave a good amount of insight into alcoholism and they realized its more genetic than once thought. Although I do agree with Lara, always some sort of environmental mixed in too.
I do not think there is a specific dependent need in a single substance/drug, etc. The need to be dependent on something is. It can be stopped. With will power. And support. It is both learned, and not (addiction). Basically, only you, can have the determination of stopping, for good.
