  1. I grew up doing judo, I competed in light weight at international level, I am also black belt in Shotokan Karate, I get attacked I take anyone down within a sec. And choke him unconscious, in MMA they only use respiratory chokes in Judo with do carotide choke, It get anyone unconscious within sec without him even seeing it happen. I was in the French foreign legion and I had many opportunities to use judo!

  2. The real idea in Judo does not require so much real strength, not in lifting the opponent up. It is knowing and feeling where the pivot point is, and taking the place of the opponent, plus adding direction and momentum to the throw. That is just my experience and memory from years ago. The important thing is the mechanics and knowing the limitations of any human physical body, especially the joints, but never by expending or using great excesses of strength. Gravity does most of the work and the completion of adding to the opponent´s force and direction of travel. Plus, it is really dangerous for people who don´t know how to fall.

  3. If you were in Japan a century ago and training in Jiu-Jitsu, you'd be training all the things that would become Judo….and the things that would become Aikido….and probably a lot of shit that looks like Okinawan Karate too. And then you'd probably know your way around a sword/spear/tanto to top it off. Now you'd need 5 different classes to get all that. Pretty unfortunate how fragmented martial arts have become. Very rarely do you see complete systems.
