Diet probably played a role but that's not why Canelo lost, there were alot of factors involved in that loss. Dmitry is the bigger and stronger guy and used that to his advantage, also his Soviet style worked perfect against the counter puncher Canelo. Canelo shines with his countering but the quick in and backward movements of a soviet style make it hard to land the counters, especially when you don't have the reach advantage. Bivol isn't necessary the more skilled boxer, bit his style worked better in that fight matchup. Canelo probably fought alot of tall guys with that style in his lower weight classes so I don't think he was clueless how to fight Bivol, but yeah once those tall guys start to become heavier and mire powerful because you level up your weight class it's a different game.
