God doesn’t allow false idols. During the exodus Moses was told by who he believed to be God to make a serpent and to have the people pray to it. I found this very weird since the serpent is the representation of Satan/sin. I believe there is foundation to think that just like Jesus was tested by the devil during his 40 days, Moses was tested multiple times as his people were to be tested for 40 years, and Moses might have failed the test and got tricked into going against Gods commandment, Therefor it would make sense why Satan wanted him.
