The one thing i hate is Hollywood taking a story and completely changing it, leaving only the name of the main character. Like the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, where the only thing connecting them is the name Cordell Walker. If they had changed the name, nobody would have recongized it as a reboot. Like the Halo tv show, were they used the characters and main story points, but creating a whole new plot, completely destroying the lore that the games and books created, and completely recreating the story of Master Chief.
One of my favorite adaptations is the Terminal List. The books were a thriller revenge story where the reader knows a more then the main character and it was adapted in a physolagical thriller revenge story with some of the death dialed down and where we only know what Reece knows and he doesn't even believe himself sometimes. Versus Reacher where the book fans just had to sit down for the ride because it was so true to the book until half way through when a character died way too early and left the fans wondering what the f*** was going to happen now.
I will say, I didn't know there was a book. But for a quieter protagonist, Ryan Gosling is a wonderful choice. Mainly watched the movie for him, and same with Blade Runner, he knocks it out of the park every time.
Movie was awesome until it turned into fast and furious marvel fantastical super human jumping and terrible special effects
