EVs use 40,000 gallons of water and up to 3 weeks to extinguish. They are much heavier than ICE cars of the same size, which means more road wear and more likely to rupture a battery cell on bumpy roads and potholes. They are two times as likely to catch fire compared to ICE cars. Some EV fires have been known to close roads for 8-10 hours each. I do wonder if the water contaminates the soil when this occurs. These Lithium batteries are also used in Ebikes too. NYC has requested for UL to find a solution to all of the bikes catching fire. I think hoverboards also use lithium batteries.
Sounds like mining for batteries is just as bad for the environment as drilling for oil
