In this short segment from a recent Virtual House Church episode I address a question concerning tithing – who it’s for and how it’s supposed to be done (see Deut. 12 for more).

we have " a lot to unlearn" because you interpret scripture differently or we believe that the bible means something different than you? LOL shut up you joke
I intend to disconnect from society on my island. Help my father build a new home in the "woods" of sorts, and clear out land to raise crops.
I don't know what to do with the excess. I suppose I could barter or sell off some of my produce. Eventually I intend to clear out the last section of the area and raise some form of beast. Truth be told I am certain that even though my Grandfather spread the land amongst his children, that a lot of it will not be used by them. So, eventually I should have cattle raising and crops growing. I suppose then that because I rarely see a soul in need, I might be best to sell a tenth of what I make and pass that into a chruch so they can fund something.
The real question though is what to do when there's no money to being used.
Hmmmm… I suppose I could save the tenth portions until I found one in need, and give it to him. Then I'd effectively have my own ministry, wouldn't I? Not very effective, but I don't see why Jehovah would be saddened by that alternate method in times where there's no money.
Anything? This sounds good, whatcha think?
I have been confused on this topic ever since I heard this. Due to my church-going background, I always was told that 10% or first-fruits of your hands went to the tithe. Anything beyond that is free-will offerings, and offerings included what you did for the poor and needy. And this is from a pastor who was going back to the Hebrew and teaching that. I always made the assumption that due to not being an agricultural society, it would be whatever money I earned from my job. And I love to give to YHWH, even when I was young. I would actually be upset if I didn't have anything to give, even if it was to the church. Also I give weekly because I know I would be tempted to spend the money I set aside for Him. So would giving weekly to the church/ministry in YHWH's name be a violation of the Torah or should I continue as I am doing? I've tried my way, and am genuinely seeking His Will through His Word on the subject. May YHWH bless you always.
Good discussion guys. Thanks for the shout out Rob.
Jesus is the tithe!
