Experts in optics and weather have concluded that “the atmosphere really does act like a lens.” What type of lens? A convex lens. What does a convex lens do? It magnifies. Is this the reason why the lower portion of ships and buildings can’t be seen or is it do to the alleged curvature of the Earth?

At 1:05 you misquote your expert by saying ".. oh, when the conditions are just right, the atmosphere is acting like a lens.." But what that man said, was that light rays were bending down toward the cold water, away from the warmer air above. That is NOT a lens effect, but a prism effect, here called 'looming', commented like this by your expert at 3:45 ".. and this is the situation where … you can see objects in the distance that would normally be obscured by the curvature of the earth …… and he can see almost to ground level of Chicago, whereas normally you wouldn't be able to see that far due to the curvature of the earth. ….. especially at this time of the year." This is not only extreme cherrypicking, it is downright dishonest.
Your expert is rejecting a very common FE "proof" here. And he is even insisting that there really is a curvature! Like every professional weather person would. But to you, now his scientific explanation for this looming "seems like an ad hoc theory..". . That is rather arrogant, especially since you did not present one factual argument to contradict him. Just a lot of ifs and may be's.
Good work, you just proved a curve. Based on your tone and your channel content I'd say that kinda backfired on you!
So according to this "scientist" cooled air bends light? Then bends it to just the perfect angle to reach the eye of an observer 70 miles away. Id love to see an experiment which proves cold air can make light rays bend. Also every real mirage Ive seen is the image of an object projected upside down
