Flat Earth and Atmospheric Magnification (short version) FYTube

Experts in optics and weather have concluded that “the atmosphere really does act like a lens.” What type of lens? A convex lens. What does a convex lens do? It magnifies. Is this the reason why the lower portion of ships and buildings can’t be seen or is it do to the alleged curvature of the Earth?

  1. I can already see the flaws in this video man.in reality, when you look at the building from the other side of the lake, it's not being magnified like the experiment you did with the magnifier. And the part where the building looks so much bigger compare to the car when you're closer to the building, that's because the lens is so much closer to that car and you are not using lenses to look at the building so the car appear way bigger comparing to the building, and the distance between the car and building also very different comparing to the right image where you show magnified building..there are many logical flaws in this video I'm too lazy to explain..

  2. the only way you can compare the scale of the car and the scale fo the boat and the building is if you use the same magnification and camera. this is a terrible example. the 1st picture of the car has a wide angle lens. which makes things closer appear larger and things at a distance appear much smaller. when you zoom in you will get very different scale results. comparing these two pictures goes to show that the individual does not understand how lens magnification works.

here is a good video that compares how a wider angle lens distorts the picture vs a zoom lens.

  3. The claim that "Experts in optics and weather have concluded that "the atmosphere really does act like a lens." is not true! Who are those experts, give us names and degrees!
And at 2:40 you are dead wrong again. A "zillion" small droplets of water in the air above the lake do NOT AT ALL act as a big magnifying lens. Just breathe on a cold piece of glass. The "zillion" small, condensed droplets of water droplets don't make any lens effect at all, they just create an opac layer on the glass. And a "zillion" small droplets of water in the air give no lens effect, because the chaotic refraction from "zillion" of microscopic water droplets result in reduced visibility, called fog or haze. Show me ONE video whith a consistent a
Another misconception is that water vapour in the air drastically increases the refraction. That is not true. Water vapour is not droplets, but a gas, much lighter than air, with refractive index close to that of air. Besides, the ca. 2% water vapor in air is much too little to alter the very small refractive index of air .
There is no such thing as "no atmospheric conditions", – that's like saying there is no temperature if the temperature is zero..

  4. On the video, the tower was 46 miles away and the boat was less than 1 mile away.
On the image, the tower was 0.59 miles away and the car several feet away.

If the car was 16 feet away, it would be ~200 times closer to you than the tower was.
Even if the boat was a half mile away, it would still only be 92 times closer to you than the tower was.

I calculated the tower is 2.4 times wider in relation to the car on the right image than it is in relation to the car on the left image. In other words, it is actually perspective in the works, not a magnification.
