Amnon's lust was rooted in jealousy and competition with Tamar's only full brother Absolom. Dishonor Absolom's sister and he would be indirectly attacking and belilttling Absolom.
David's favorite sons were these two half-brothers.
David seemed indifferent to Tamar. This competition led to the destruction of Tamar, Absolom and Amnon. The violence continued under Solomon– the son of Bathsheba.
