In fact, robots have become a very real concern for many workers throughout the industrialized world as ever advancing technology threatens to replace them. But while we live in an age where robots are becoming commonplace, it was not too long ago that they were the subject of only myth and legend. The Sumerians, Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks and Indus Valley civilization have a multitude of accounts concerning robots and automata in general.

  1. Here's a fun fact:
    The world “robot” first appeared in the play R.U.R. (1920) by Karel Čapek, whose brother Josef coined the term for a manmade worker. Robots have its etymological origin in the Slavonic word “robota”, meaning arduous work, and replaced the term for hard workers originally conceived by Čapek, “labor”.
