Euphrates = from the word Ευφραίνω in the Greek language which translates to rejoice today but the actual etymology of this word comes from Ευ and Φρην (=φρενες) that is someone who has a sound mind The word φρενες actually refers to the “brakes” of a person’s mind so someone with a sound mind rejoices. It could be a metaphorical meaning too as people who alienate themselves from God no longer have a sound mind I.e a sound perception of things and see whatever is right for wrong and perceive wrong for right. Spiritual abandonment, dryness of mind and heart. Does it ring a bell at all in these days we live? In old Persian it means to lead, to pass over. However the apocalypse was written in Ancient Greek and on this language we must focus. Besides in order to lead and pass over we need a sound mind. Armageddon a rendering into Greek of the Jewish terms αρ + Μαγεδων that means “mount of Megiddo” or “mount of the gathering of huge armies”.
