I may not be educated enough to insist but it seems that the Christian use of the underground spaces are secondary to the practical and ongoing Roman/Pagan use, literally written on the walls. The only question I have is, why does the Vatican consider this the ambiguous overlap of Christians ritual as practiced by Roman converts. It could have just been simply a forgotten (graves) hiding spot for Christians to meet. It was so secret that construction would usually unearth them in the future. Just saying, it might not be so complex.
The Loom could be representative of the fabric of reality, similar to the Three Sisters in Greek mythology weaving reality for the mortals. Another thing that came to mind was that the people laying on the floor may not be dead, they could just be tripping on some psychedelic brew.
