  1. FYI: Constantine is not a Saint in the Roman Catholic Church. His brother-in-law was the emperor of the Roman Empire and fully supported by the Roman Senate. The brother-in-law, Emperor Maxentius, was killed at the battle of Milvian Bridge, October 28, 312 AD. Constantine was a “junior” emperor overseeing Brittania, Gaul, and Spain but as emperor’s go, got power hungry. Despite what you may have heard, accounts of the battle vary. Some mention no conversion by Constantine others he saw a cross in a vision or in the sky, others he envisioned the “Chi-Rho” symbol or had his soldiers paint it on their shields, 1 account Christ himself appeared to Constantine the night before, for a well needed pep talk! Regardless Constantine won the battle, gave leadership to 3 other men(4 in all), obviously, not his dead brother-in-law, moved the empire to present day turkey. His edict of Milan did grant religious freedom including Christian’s, but NOT exclusively. At this point Christian’s begin killing each other over whose version is best, and whose overall religion should be supreme. The Roman Catholic Church and local politicians made arrests and executions commonplace and the beginning of the medieval structure of society has its roots. Christianity was NOT the official religion of the Roman Empire until 380AD, ……43 years after the death of Constantine! ( oh and in Italy, they will tell you the rat problem in Rome is what moved the empire east. A reason cats are revered throughout the region, especially in Turkey and Egypt, historic gateways for rat infestations and plagues)
