Joe is right, these are failings of human nature on a potentially civilization-ending scale. No one likes to talk about how both sides (and the US, UK, and middle east countries) continue to allow religious ideals to corrupt their ethics. So conceit, to the point of looking at the others as not worthy has gone on for thousands of years. Religion isn't the core problem, but it's a toxic effect of our weakness to give our autonomy and responsibility away to faith and fear.
