Sounds much like the response a Jehovah’s Witness would give; very literal about “sleep”!
To the young lady who asked the question; be rest assured that your father resides with our Lord!
Revelation 6:9-10, John writes, “When he [Christ] opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne; they (cried out) with a loud voice, ‘O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before thou wilt judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell upon the earth?'”
John is looking at the disembodied (souls) of the Martyr’d. They have been killed by standing for Christ…in turn, the souls DO exist and they are conscious! How do we know this? Because they cry out to God for vengeance. Unconscious people or those that are “asleep” can’t do that!
Then in Revelation 20:4 John sees these souls again: “Then I saw . . . the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God and who had not worshipped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”
“Once again these are disembodied souls (they had been beheaded). John sees them coming to life to reign with Christ and they are very conscious!
Any church that follows the Jehovah’s Witness or teach the same theology is certainly not of Christ! Jeff
