So the evening and the morning were the first day." Jesus died sunset Thursday and for us God's people that's actually the beginning of Friday (preparation day) that's day 1. He rested on Sabbath (even in death He kept the Sabbath) that's day 2. He rose on Sunday. That's day 3.
