The spies later protected her and her family when they came and overtook the city. I believe that being a false witness against another person- to cause them harm is what the bible is referring to.. Protecting oneself or others against an evil intent is often the only wise choice one can make..

People do not understand what the definition of righteousness is. Webster: Purity of heart and rectitude of life; conformity of heart and life to the divine law.
