The word firmament(רָקִיעַ) can also be translated as dome, the firmament is a dome. If you do a google search for firmament, Wikipedia will tell you “In Biblical cosmology, the firmament is the structure above the atmosphere, conceived as a vast solid dome”.

Gosh some cursory geography would tell you you're wrong. Just sail in a straight line on the ocean and you run into land.
