Who is God speaking to in Genesis 1:26?
“And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness…”
God is speaking to Jesus. All throughout Genesis 1:1-25, God created all things by commanding it into existence. It is God the Father who created the heavens and the earth by himself; by HIS WORD ALONE. It was by His Commandment that all things were created.
Before Gen 1:1 and John 1:1, Jesus was given life (John 5:26) and then given all power and authority in heaven and earth (Matt 28:18) by God the Father as the appointed heir of all things (Heb 1:2). Jesus obeys God’s every commandment and always does those things that please the Father (John 8:29, John 12:49-50).
Just like the Father is to the Son, we are made in their likeness, and we are instructed to become one even as they are one (John 17:22). Without God, Jesus can do nothing. Jesus is not God, only the Father is the one true God (1 Cor 8:6, John 17:3). Repent and God will forgive. Amen.
