The next chapter of Genesis takes place in the life of Judah and you might remember that it was Judah who had convinced his brothers not to kill Joseph, but to instead sell him to the Ishmaelites in the first place.

judah was the one who tried to kill joseph in first place …. when levi stopped him from killing … they agreed on throwing joseph in a well and hoped that no one will come to help joseph… but one day a man (one of Ishmael's children) with a caravan stopped at that well … they found joseph there… when judah came to know that someone found joseph .. he was afraid that joseph will return home safely to Israel and he will be cursed by him and hell will waiting for him…. he sold his brother joseph to that man name Maalik for 11-12 gold coins.
So now after a full day's study I seem to have a better grasp on why Genesis 38 is set between the two chapters about Joseph
Tamar knew she had to keep the bloodline pure, Judah having married outwith his tribe, therefore the sons were the problem, hence God killed them.
When Judah's wife died and Shelah had come of age, Tamar knew what she had to do.
Tamar must have been a pure bloodline. Just like Noah, who was righteous in his generation, Judah actually tells us Tamar was righteous also, more so than himself who had not kept his generation pure.
According to our common understanding of good and bad, wouldn't stealing, decieving a dying father to grant a birth right? Why would "god" love such a person, yet Esau, whom loved his brother, forgave his brother and loved him and welcomed him with open arms after he did all of that? God loved Jacob and hated Esau? Obviously, the old testiment God is actually Satan. That's why the world is so crappy. Esau is Issa.
Jacobs sons are the Israelites.. you mean the Egyptians
