Debunking # 8 of the “Top Ten Reasons Why We (allegedly) Know the Earth is Round (as in a globe) FYTube

I’m going to debunk each of the so-called “Top Ten Reasons Why We Know The Earth is Round.” It’s actually quite easy. Here’s to debunking number 8: The Coriolis Effect. If the Earth is not rotating (and it’s been scientifically proven that it is NOT), then the whole premise of the Coriolis Effect falls apart. And OK ball Earthers… which is it? Is the atmosphere glued to the spinning ball or not? Please make up your minds. Thanks.

  1. I have done some long range (1,000 yd.) shooting, and I am an engineer. I have a pretty good understanding on external ballistics (which is actually what proved to me the earth could not be rotating when the concept was introduced to me). If the earth is rotating at a surface speed of 1,000 miles per hour (~1,500 ft/sec). It would be virtually impossible to make a long range shot without knowing precisely the angle of the shot with respect to the earth's rotation. Considering a bullet flight time of 1.5 seconds (over 1,000 yards), the target could move side-to-side or away from/toward the bullet by over 2,000 ft. after the bullet leaves the barrel depending on the direction you are shooting. So if you are shooting perpendicular to the direction of rotation, the target would be 2,000 feet left or right of where you saw it when you broke the shot. As far as moving toward or away from you, Coriolis effect is nothing compared to the difference in the point on the trajectory. The bullet flies in an arc (not a straight line) which can be very high at long distances. For my .308 at 1000 yards, the peak of the arc was about 130 inches (almost 11 ft.) above the line of sight at around 550 yards. With the target moving toward you at 1,500 fps, the bullet would pass WAY over the target and way under the target if it was moving away. You could theoretically dial your scope in to compensate, bt it would only be good for that exact angle in relation to the movement of the earth. That would be impossible for a military sniper who has to take shots at all different directions.
