I have a feeling his middle name may have just been the letter D.
Also there is a theory that he was not born in Bristol, but in fact in Bath Town under the name Edward Beard. He was the son of Captain James Beard. Thatch or Teach was an alias that Beard had made. Also there's a belief that Black Sam, aka Sam Bellamy gave Blackbeard the idea for his name, Black Beard.
Pirates were basically the Dutch East India Company VOC, double crossing other trade ships and reselling same goods over and over again, it's one of the oldest tricks in the book that can grant vast wealth in minimum time.
