One test of whether someone is a true prophet or not that I believe is not pressed enough if at all is found in Deuteronomy 13. Here God warns that even if a prophet or dreamer of dreams/visions gives a prediction or has a dream or vision that comes true it still doesn't mean they are a prophet of God. The true test is whether they encourage us to true worship according to the word of God and are themselves faithful to the word of God. Is there doctrine sound and do they exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.
I strongly believe this is very important to understand because we are warned that especially in the last days Satan will work false signs and wonders that if possible will fool the elect of God! Our only safeguard will be the Word of God. If these dreamers and workers of miracles are not calling people to worship God according to the commandments of God (rather than error or tradition) and not living a live of obedience to the Word of God themself, doesn't matter how convincing the miracle, or how accurate the prediction, we do not believe them or allow ourselves to be influenced by them!
