Alright, Lot had the opportunity to reside in his uncle’s family in Canaan, and it is from this connection that the plot unfolds. Lot was the son of Haran, Abraham’s brother, and thus, the nephew of the great Patriarch of Israel.
In this video, you will learn everything the Bible tells us about who Lot was. The origin and meaning of the name Lot are uncertain, but some scholars suggest that it may convey the sense of a covering veil. According to the Bible, after his father’s death, he left the city of Ur of the Chaldeans and headed towards the city of Haran, along with his grandfather Terah, his uncle Abraham, and Sarai.
Later, when Abraham left Haran after Terah’s death, Lot followed him towards Canaan. Some time later, during a great famine in the land of Canaan, Lot traveled to Egypt with Abram. After Pharaoh discovered he had been deceived by Abram and Sarai, the family was expelled from Egypt and returned with the patriarch to Canaan.
During this time, both Abraham and Lot prospered. Their herds grew so much that the region where they lived could no longer accommodate everyone, leading to conflicts between the shepherds of Lot and those of Abram. Faced with this, Abram and Lot decided to separate. At the time of the separation, Abram generously allowed Lot to choose the land he would occupy. That’s when Lot chose the fertile plains near the Jordan River, towards the Dead Sea, near Sodom.
After the separation from Abram and heading towards Sodom, Lot quickly became involved in the city’s affairs. During this time, he held a prominent social position, as he was sitting at the city gate when the angels of the Lord arrived. In the past, the most respected members of a city gathered at the gate to resolve legal matters. However, according to the Bible, the people of that city were extremely wicked. Reports were that the men of Sodom were incredibly evil and great sinners against our Lord God.
According to the New Testament, the biblical text indicates that Lot was deeply distressed every day because of the blatant wickedness practiced by the inhabitants of that city. The apostle Peter also mentions this and reports that Lot’s righteous soul was constantly tormented by the filthy conduct of the wicked, as he, being a righteous man, saw and heard things that deeply disturbed his righteous soul.

  1. Because the bible is full of incest and it started at the very beginning of it with Adam and Eve and trickled down right through the generation of their descendants if you believe in the bible!
