I used to hike by myself in Rocky Mountain national park from the 80s to 2000. I couldn’t take my dogs there so I went a few times a year.
I was up on a high peak and ran into a man. He was cool but it opened my eyes to the risk I was taking.
I always talked and sang while hiking. I knew beyond a doubt I had been watched by a cat. You can feel it. Never saw one but I heard it. Saw bears a lot at a dud ranch I worked at. Trash.
After that I started hiking only were I could take my dogs. Moose were a problem then. I just had to train my dogs very well. They were aussie/border collie mixes. Best dogs ever.
I miss those days
