Most people are profoundly ignorant, they think they know all about good and bad, right and wrong, high and low, sin and virtue. The Buddha Way is none of of these. History has plenty of examples of people doing harm to others on the middle path ending up destroying themselves.
Nobunaga won the war on terror. His solution was simple kill them all.

Also, they chose the wrong side and were eventually annihilated. That is the risk religious groups take when they get involved in war and politics. Those that live by the sword, die by the sword. Taking up arms and being willing to kill invites your enemies to remove you as a threat.
