There is the ‘first death’ which we all suffer. When Jesus returns he raises the believers from the dead and takes them to Heaven. The ‘second death’ has no power over these people and they spend one thousand years in Heaven with God where they can read the books of judgement to ask questions and see that God is just. After one thousand years in Heaven the Holy City comes down to the Earth. The wicked are then raised from the dead and receive their punishment as fire comes down from God and devours them ‘root and branch’. This is the ‘second death’.
