I don’t have to fear myself into not being a shitty person. I also don’t have to extort myself with the thought of reward to be a good person either.
I would say “problem solved” but I’ve been operating this way since my late teens anyway. Seemed fairly obvious to me early on that to do so would be a distortion of morality. That’s why I let go of such notions.
Religion isn't always a set of handcuffs, it can also be empowering. The power to tell someone to go to hell for instance and for that to mean anything depends on religious leanings.
