T'ai chi is a meditative art. The slow circular, softening movements, if integrated into martial arts training, might well provide an advantage in a fight.
I used to stay in for a tai chi class after ju jitsu because my wrestling coach in college (jr) taught (coached) all 3. He would use me for demonstration and it helped me with my balance and overall strength a lot. I later broke my leg damn near in half and spent years healing. I was way better off on one leg because of it. Not sure if it was the way he taught or what. But warm ups consisted of stretching, leg lifting and balancing on one leg.
Tai Chi is mastery of one's self in all aspects of life. Punch kick isn't that. it's just a small part. The traditional forms are for meditation purposes but does teach muscle memory. I used to bounce for years. I never had a problem to be honest and a ring has a safety aspect. Bouncing, we don't even have calling all cars. We just do
