  1. I have scoliosis. I’m currently going through pain that is radiating to the center of my chest. Feels like someone is in my back, pulling my spine side to side in opposite directions). My mom and sisters recommend them. But, when I tell them they’re quacks, I get called a goofy. I believe my scoliosis is worsening. I’m only 27.

  2. Spine pain can be anatomic, systemic, structural, mechanical, or multifactorial. Chiropractic can fix mechanical, aid in the management of the structural, and the anatomic and systemic likely lay outside of the scope of efficacy. It is all-about whether the doctor, and I don't care if they are DC, MD, DO, DPT, Spine Fellow, Sub-specialist, or whatever, whether the doctor diagnoses the patient properly, and matches the treatment to the diagnosis, or whether they try to match the patient to the treatment, regardless of diagnosis. Doctors who put the cart before the horse are substandard, regardless of the training and letters after their name.

  3. Joe is spot on 98% of chiros are absolute trash. I had been in a terrible collision with a fully loaded tractor trailer, neck whipped in several directions. I had just moved and had no family doctor and walk-in clinic doctors kept telling me I was fine, but I didn't feel fine. I felt a lot of pain in my lower neck, like C6-C7 region and had always been told chiros are the experts on neck. My initial plan was just to get advice and light care, maybe stretches at most, because doctors were refusing x-rays , never mind MRIs. This chiro was incredibly manipulative and convinced me in my vulnerable state (I was in pain and so desperate to get better) that he knew exactly what was wrong, there was simply a misalignment of some of my cervical vertebrae and some adjustments would fix it right up easily. I made the biggest mistake of my life, and I kid you not I've made some big mistakes, and let him perform the most dangerous flexion adjustment to my neck (the one that has a chance to sever your neck artery and give you a stroke and kill you). For the first couple hours, I felt fine, and I went home but then that night I felt some tingling in my finger tips I had never felt before. The next day I felt a cold pain shoot right down my arm, something I had never felt in my life before, it was scary. The pain was so persistent I could not sleep, unless I had extra strength Tylenol and that barely did it. Over the next few months I endured pain levels I had never felt before. There were stabbing, biting and burning pains in my shoulder, tricep, bicep, down the side of my chest, and my palms and fingers. The pain moved around, but returned to frequent spots. In some areas it felt like someone was inside my body with a scalpel, slicing through my tendons. This went on for months. I did go back to the chiro and told him of my symptoms and he got super defensive quickly, even though I did not accuse him – like he knew he was responsible. But guess what , not only did i sign a waiver, he knew I could never pin the damage on him because he had an out and could just blame the collision if I tried to sue. This was exactly 2 years ago. Fortunately I have healed quite a bit, only because the human body can be amazing. Most of the pain areas are now sort of dulled stinging pains, more like sensations, but they are still there. I did seek physio in the end and got a fairly good physiotherapist. We have two theories as to what actually happened. Either the chiro caused one of the disc bulges an MRI eventually revealed. The 2nd is my personal theory: after researching medical journals for dozens of hours on end is that he caused a traction/pull injury to several parts of my brachial plexus nerves – similar to a stinger injury. I'm hopeful that its the latter because disc bulges are permanent, but the brachial plexus nerves have a chance to fully heal and will continue to get better. I'm still showing signs of nerve palsy from weakness in my rotator cuff and pinky finger, so its possible that even a nerve traction injury will not fully heal and this is permanent. This is a real story from a real person, just like you. I'm hoping for the best. I hope you all learn from this wisdom and stay as far away from chiropractors as possible.
