We juut watched Judd's documentary, and it's excellent, but I have two major critiques, both based on Garry's own interviews and the statements of people who worked with him. One major flaw IMO is that it barely mentions the late Roy London, who was personally thanked in the closing credits of EVERY episode of Larry Sanders. Garry has stated in interviews how much he respected and depended on Roy, who was both his acting teacher and mentor, and Garry said explicitly that Roy's advice was crucial to his decision to create Larry Sanders, rather than take the Tonight Show offer, and he also explicitly admitted that he seriously considered quitting the show when Roy died. My other BIG criticism is that it totally skates over Garry's well-publicised struggles with prescription drugs, which were directly parodied in the series, and which many colleagues attested had a serious negative effect on his relationships with them and that his addiction made him incredibly hard to deal with, plus, the end of the documentary simply claims Garry died of a heart attack, which wad true, but completely fails to mention that he also had high levels of a cocktail of prescription drugs in his system when he died. Both of those issues are IMO major oversights/omissions, but I'd still highly recommend the documentary to anyone who wants to learn more about him.
Garry turning down the Tonight Show slot; now that's some real comedy. Garry was a brilliant man; RIP.
Never a fan of that grasshopper mouth individual.
I haven’t forgotten how great the Larry Sanders show was!!
Dream On proceded by the Larry Sanders Show was HBO's best hour of programming ever. I can't believe they do not scream Dream On what a missed opportunity.
