  1. Jamie Foxx tells a vivid and gripping story that I admire. Yet he must be mistaken that Jay Z was posted on the wall while "nobody knew" him. This $400 party must've been in late 2003, since Foxx recalls it being some six weeks before rapper Twista's single "Slow Jamz"—featuring Jamie Foxx and, as also its producer, Kanye West—was a hit single. Jay Z's debut album, the sensation Reasonable Doubt, arrived in 1996. Jay Z's supposedly farewell album, The Black Album, includes a big hit—"99 Problems"—and was released in November 2003.

Jay Z's third or 1998 album had the hit "Hard Knock Life" and his fourth or 1999 album had the huge hit "Big Pimpin' "—while these albums' producers included Timbaland as well as Swizz Beatz and their guest rappers included DMX as well as, of "Back Dat Thing Up" fame, Juvenile—while his fifth or 2000 album's producers included Kanye West himself plus the Neptunes duo that included Pharell, whom Foxx recalls being near Jay Z at the $400 party. Jay Z's sixth album, The Blueprint, was in 2001, when he held contemporary rap's crown. (AllMusic shares details.)
