If Google views you as a liability as an employee, if they will at all be damaged by NOT firing you, why the fuck shouldn't they fire you? Consider this from the perspective of the corporation. If I had an employee that was making headlines for saying something controversial on either end, absolutely I would let them go to defend the well-being of my company and all the shareholders who are involved in the wellbeing of my company. This fucker just went on the record with his outlier opinion, if it was too far left or too far right it would've hurt him regardless. He was stating his controversial views on the record AS A GOOGLE EMPLOYEE and that is why he got fired.
