The problem is that no one wants to hear something that prevents them from achieving a goal. And I'm not just taking about guys being creepy idiots when they're trying to get laid, but that's a huge part of it. We see each other as objects for imposing our will. Some people just want to win conversations. Some people want their nonsense ideas validated. Some people thrive on seeing that something that another person isn't into can become something that they can be convinced of. Cat and mouse fetish. Again, I'm not even just talking about men. I've been in a bar and had someone sit in my lap. I've been at a concert and have someone start grinding on me. It's just humanity.
I'm not trying to say that we need to stop it. Sometimes the mouse has fun too. What needs to stop is people who feel vulnerable being afraid to shut down stuff they don't want to participate in, and people who are trying to get what they want having a threshold for departure somewhere short of "I got what I wanted."
