If this guy can't come up with Warren Jeff's name, or the fact that Colorado city is not in Colorado, just for starters, he's no authority.
IT IS A CULT!! Through out actual scripture, it warns of False teachers, Prophets, “ Another Gospel” etc. IF THE HERESIES OF JOE SMITH DON’T CONSTITUTE A CULT, NOTHING DOES
Mormonism is still a cult! Just a more organized and clever one! They are Now a corporation disguised as a church! Take money from members no matter how poor they are and tell them they will be blessed to pay their 10 percent! While they hide money in hedge funds! The top 15 have no idea half the time what their lawyers are doing. It’s the lawyers running the show! From the SA abuse in the church to the bullying communities to put in temples! They use our titles to do this! That really sounds Jesus right? They do hate bad PR.. so just tell media the truth and the church will do any and all to make the church look good no matter what!
It is amazing and disappointing how grossly misinformed two very respected and intelligent individuals can be regarding some very basic facts about the truth claims of a worldwide religion; the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with over 17 million members across the globe. The fact that Shermer asks Rogan if he ever read the book “under the banner of heaven” is a dead give away Shermer knows nothing regarding actual Latter Day Saint history, but is gullible for sensationalistic books that misrepresent a religion to sell books. His description of Joseph Smith and the beginnings of how the restored gospel of Jesus Christ came to be was just laughable to any member like myself who knows the facts. I honestly couldn’t tell if Shermer is just that grossly misinformed, or if he was maliciously misrepresenting the beginnings of plural marriage in the church, and truly just regurgitating Krakauer’s lack of true history with just biased deceitful storytelling. serious readers who have done their homework to understand Latter-day Saints and their true history, just scratch our heads wondering how respected intelligent people can twist and distort and misrepresent history so erroneously. Really Shermer?the testimony’s (or as you refer to them, affidavits) of the three and eight witnesses’s at the beginning of the Book of Mormon have nothing to do with the revelations Joseph Smith received regarding plural marriage. How you conflated two unrelated claims into the story you just gave is beyond me. You sound like an ignorant dummy, and shame on you…and shame on you Joe Rogan for just eating up this garbage, and then making your snide flippant little comment about all 14 year olds being liars. I just lost a lot of respect for you. Do better! You don’t have to believe the truth claims, but for goodness sake, show some respect…and at least exhibit that you have a fair accurate understanding of what the truth claims are you are in disagreement with.
Having been raised in the Mormon church, I can tell you definitively tell you it IS a cult.
