Not too sure what to think of Joe now after this, I’ve heard his opinion of how he thinks the future will be like the future tech and shit, but not the part about how we should be able to dictate how another is thinking and thats how evil festers. Literally wtf, to me the idea of looking into peoples minds like that is evil; evil has many meanings and portrayals depending on what you classify as evil. As a modern society we all agree certain things are an absolute no-no, like killing another person (yet modern America is silent about our military drone killing people in the middle east; as well as occupying their countries for seemingly no reason), touching kids, and so on. But some people see worshiping anything other than their god as evil, even worshiping the basic connection of all life, nature.
The most disastrous instances of evil in history is because ideologies rose to the top and a culmination of people all agreed and fought for it, no matter the cost or consequences on other people. Its not just what someone thinks, and its not just in one singular human. There is the possibility of evil in EVERYONE, just like how everyone has the compacity to kill, yet in modern society we have a unspoken agreement to not do so. Most people are programmed with empathy, and compassion, so we don’t kill our kids to further out species since its a very strenuous and time consuming task. Some people don’t have that programmed into them, yet they can still function in modern society quite well if they try, while a small minority betrays the glowing rule in modern society; to not kill.
I think its meaningless to try and conceptualize what our future will look like unless we are actively trying to change it for the better or prevent future ideological evils, Joe’s idea on what technology will be able to do and how future humans will use that technology is preposterous.
The generation I’m apart of is really close to generation X and my concerns aren’t with mind reading technologies, and i can already see such divergence between how he perceives the future, how my generation and younger see current events and how i perceive the future and current events, is so different and i find it amazing how Joe doesn’t see this from having 3 daughters.
In addition, I’m a bit disappointed in Joe. I whole-heartedly agreed with Joey Diaz the last time he was on the podcast when he told him to stop talking about political shit, and to focus on talking about life. How i see it, Joey was sincere in that advise and it surpassed being just on a live podcast, it was a heart to heart advise for what he could see Joe turning into, I’ve avoided Joe with these small clips focusing on seemingly meaningless little clips like “Transgender Athletes” or whatever; great, totally not trying to go for a political heartstrings of people. It may just be the clips they decide to put out there, or Joe’s passion for podcasting is decreasing as hes focusing a lot on opinions from people that don’t have much to say other than the average person and the MMA shit; my favorite podcast was with Paul Stamets, that podcast literally changed my perspective on life and mushrooms. Yet i haven’t been able to find much substance after that in these podcasts, and I’ve seen some other people complain that he had more intellectuals/people who knew what the fuck they were talking about on previous years of the podcast. Also i think adding the MMA commentary on this channel was a mistake, i think a additional channel just for that (but with the same setting and stuff) would be more beneficial for those like me who just love the intellectual banter or even playful conversations between friends or new people trying to figure out what you think about the world. This clip in particular (whether I’m right or wrong) seems like a dick sucking show, they both somewhat agree on singularity and the title is misleading, its a minor inconvenience to the concept of the technology.
As a final note, has he had on anyone who whole-heartedly disagrees with his views of future technology and singularity? If not or if so, anyone who has read this, this far down please let me know.
