Joe naturally assumes that people are being nice because of some kind of ulterior motive.
He's missing the point that sometimes doing a good deed can be fulfilling unto itself. Feeling good from "making a difference", right?

It depends on the type of depression. Some depression, like major depressive disorder, and bi-polar are chemical imbalances. People who are not licensed doctors, and don't know the medicals science, should watch what they say.
