  1. Steven Seagal did more to raise the profile of Aikido and has since done more to make it a joke than anyone.

He actually isnt THAT technically adept either and the majority of what he gets away with is because he's 6 foot 4 and a big unit. His 'multiple attacker" video never show anyone doing anything other than passivley grabbing his shoulders, I doubt he could sprawl a leg takedown or even deal with someone throwing a decent boxing combo tbh. His compusive lying and (alleged) abusive behaviour over the years is also stomach churning for those of us who have dedicated our lives to the art.

There are many sensei before and since Segal who had an understanding of both the traditional (As Joe rightly says) arrest and control techniques but also of the fighting styles like Aikijutsu etc that the originator of Aikido Moihei Ueshiba originally studied and based his art on.

Thankfully there is a growing movement within the art for returning Aikido to it's Aikijustu/practical roots, and crosstraining is now common amongs these dojos (Our channel is basically just about Aikidoka crosstraining with every art!) and many law enforcement, corrections officers and close protection operatives are being drawn to these doojos because of this. But the vast majority of Aikido practitioners are still basically training flowing cooperative kata, nothing more (as are many traditional dojods of other style too I may add) and this ideology and the blind faith in figureheads like Segal are nothing but detrimental to any form of evolution within the art..

  2. Sorry man, you’re wrong. I’m 6’4” and 275 lbs. I was asked to punch a Aikido master (70 yrs old and 130 lbs). First punch, I went 50% and he stopped me and said, “no punch me for real”. Then I did. One second later I was flipped 10 ft away. Then he said attack me anyway you want. I tried and was one my back 5x. He did it effortlessly. Stuffs for real.

  3. Aikido, however it's spelled is very questionable, yes. Steven Seagal, however his last name is spelled is also very questionable, yes. Just look into how he ended up becoming an American Aikido instructor in Japan. Then read into his early to mid career in Hollywood. There is a lot of shit to talk about in these details.

  4. "Aikido was invented to disarm samurai in battle"
"Aikido is just for fighting people who don't know how to fight"

Actually Aikido was developed in the 1920s, but the samurai bit comes from the fact that the founder was trained in Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, which was used by samurai.
