Douglas Murray is spot on. This millenial illness of 'google scholarship' and 'youtube debates' has impacted our ability to, put simply, shut the fuck up and let the experts tell us what we need to know in order to wade in. The majority of people in the world are ignorant to the majority of issues in the world – this has to be true. The best thing an ignorant populace can do is educate themselves, and education starts with knowing your own ignorance. Accept that you are lacking. Accept that you could know more. Accept that people do know more than you.
Once you have these basic assumptions down, you can start to learn. Just because we have inherited the fruits of the Enlightenment doesn't mean we have the pallet necessary to appreciate said fruits. We don't have to be experts in order to train ourselves, but we do have to train ourselves in order to be experts.
Also… fuck the 'look it up' generation. Go read something – anything! (Might I recommend 'The Closing of the American Mind' by Allan Bloom)
Charlie Hebdo and the Danish cartoons solidified my utter shame, and disgust in the current State of Journalism. It's repugnant that nearly every Western news outlet decried Hebdo for cartoons, and not standing in solidarity with Free Speech, and Free Press. Utterly disgraceful.
The problem with free speech protestors, is how they’re using free speech rights to demonize and otherwise attack the principle and those who advocate it.
Like they’ll someone how change minds, in reality all it does it make people want to strike them and make them show double the hypocrisy as they cry to the law enforcement they’ve condemned previously.
Liberals are inept infants wholly manipulated by anything that plays their heartstring harp.
No thoughts, just emotions and scraps of the starved logic centers falling off in the chaos of their “minds”.
