He’s A list because everyone knows him
For people who remember late night television decades ago, Joe is sort of like Tom Snyder was. Everyone back in the 1970s and 80s knew who Tom Snyder was but he would often have many guests on his show who were vastly more famous than he was—-the INTENSITY of their fame surpassed his. Almost as many people know who Joe is compared to Robert Downey Jr., but Downey is more famous because the intensity of his fame is much higher.
