I guess the "gay" word shifting in meaning over time is probably a thing of the Gay Rights Movement going on, to finally get some acceptance of this demographic, thus finding a word to describe it other than derogatory, or just the pure neutral "homosexual" which nobody wants to use except scientists and maybe politicians. So you needed a fun word, "gay" was it, somewhat metaphorical, but did the job, and since then it also became kinda negative, in the mouths of thos who didn't want to be associated with "gay" anyway.
This is what happens when you let radical idiologues control speech.
I have a challenge for anyone and everyone seeing as how these two are talking about offensive stuff try to come up with a quote that will offend everybody
The less capable and self reliant people are the more they feel the need to control every aspect of everyone around them.
