Hey Joe, I’m a trans person who watches your podcast regularly and I’ve always been a BIG fan and consider you to be one of the better people in this world. I don’t feel like you’re slandering trans people as a whole and I’m with you in the sense that if people slip up and still refer to me as male, I don’t freak out or take offense 9 out of ten times because “Mike” is still embedded in my head too and I even slip up when referring to myself. Here’s the thing, when you “advertise” this kind of material. Some of the people who love and respect you in turn begin creating other spin offs of your content supporting hateful material towards trans people. I don’t think you’re a “transphobic” based on this clip or your caitlyn Jenner jokes. But imo you’re bringing up painful subjects to an entire community and just because you feel like playing “devils advocate”, you do so in damaging your image because what I’ve always perceived about you, is that you’re a kind and genuine human being who brings great people around to discuss great topics that allow humanity to advance in a way. You have a responsibility to use your influence properly. I feel like your going backwards. I agree, every person is gonna get made fun of and a lot of trans people can take jokes and aren’t anything like some of the more extremist types (which I’m not one of them), you know, the type to call someone transphobic because they are only into women who were biologically born a woman. I can understand that as a trans person and just being human. Here’s the problem again though, you generally speak on trans people in the right context and I don’t believe you to be homo phobic or transphobic but you have a HUGE audience and I just watched a “video reply” of someone “taking your side” and seriously putting down trans people in a way that is dehumanizing and that opens those wounds back up. Being trans is very hard. Because it begins in childhood for almost every trans person I’ve talked to, including myself. So in a way, your platform has the power to attach a dangerous stigma to ALL trans people as a whole and some of us are really cool easy going “normal” everyday people who just want to be accepted like anyone else. I try my hardest to see things from every side, which is why I like your show because I believe you have a similar approach to concepts in this world by trying to remain objective and not close your mind at every possibility (which comes with being an experienced individual who’s also very experienced with psychedelics, lol). In essence, you’re potentially fanning a fire. I think it’s important that some trans people get checked just like any other person who’s “out of bounds”. But you have to take into account with the magnitude of your influence, that not everyone is as smart as you, and are going to use your voice in a way that reflects poorly on you. Which by the way, I just watched some asshole basically dehumanize Caitlyn which made me feel dehumanized. I said “fuck you” to him, which I know was pointless because he’s probably a troll. I hate trolls honestly, they’re like miniature dis info agents. Fuck them! When you put out content that raises questions regarding the validity of trans people’s experiences like this it’s kind of a surprise to me because I’ve been watching you grow since fear factor and I remember long before I came out, me n my buddy saw how you checked Carlos Mencia and we were like, “hell yea Joe Rogan”. So for you to have support from a trans person like myself and to hear you cast doubt over a community in this way you perpetuate more hate which I don’t believe that’s your intention, but that’s likely going to be the result. I honestly wish I was “cis” sometimes so I wouldn’t have to engage in this type of dialogue. I wish I could call you right now honestly and discuss this. Some trans people mis-represent the trans community as a whole, and I don’t think Caitlyn is one of them. She was a pretty good sport on whoever’s Comedy Central “roast” she was on and they took shots at her trans identity. Don’t be a bully, you’re better than that, or so I hope and always had thought. Only reason I’m addressing you is because I was thinking about watching one of your podcasts and then I came across some asshole using clips of your video to dehumanize Caitlyn and trans people’s existence. I don’t think that’s what you want but that’s what happens when you decide to put out content that allows people to perceive you the wrong way and turn it into something else entirely. It makes me apprehensive to watch your show now. And that’s frustrating because I like you, but you’re opening up wounds for the trans people who aren’t like the trans people you are questioning/playing devils advocate with. I think Bruce was incredible as an athlete and I do appreciate you defending Caitlyn in the sense of her not having the muscle she once had because I’m not built like I was once either, and probably couldn’t hold my own in a fight with a man now because of trying to maintain a feminine appearance over the years. I’m not sone nut job though I am on a rant here….my point is, can you try not to be so reckless? You have more power than you think. And this is a poor use of it. If you want to genuinely get to know more than one type of trans person then have an objective transgender individual on your show and have this discussion instead of teasing us with another cis person as if we (trans people) all fit the same frame.
