  1. Taekwondo's best crowning achievement is its only great as a cardio workout and its great as a fast paced fat burning exercise. But and its a big but Taekwondo is not great for self defense. Wing Chun is better at self defense than ballerina Taekwondo dancing

To Mr. joe Rogan, can you please comment on the above link. It is about a black belter sparring a yellow belter who happens to be a girl. From what I gathered, the coach ordered the black belter to spar with the girl. Back story: it was the girls birthday and the boyfriend showed up with some flowers and some food. The coach was said to have a crush on the girl and became jealous. Ordered one of his blackbelters to spar with her. The end result was a trip to the hospital with major injuries.

  3. Taekwondo may not be perfect as a martial art but it was so pervasive in both Canada and the US it gave so many of us an opportunity to do SOME form of martial arts where there were no other opportunities or options. I was fortunate that I had an old school Korean Vietnam-era instructor, Master Choi, back in the early '80s who became like my second father. I was above average but not great but taught me a lesson in perseverance. He use to beat us with a cane and fail our belt grades if we were not proficient, unlike now where the parents would have him arrested! Helped me become a confident man. Like Joe, I did MMA before MMA was even a term by doing Judo, Muai Thai and started training with diverse practitioners. Those of us who understand the holes find the art, skills and teachers to fill those gaps in our training. It's all about the path and what you get from it.

  4. I feel for joe rogan, it's tough being an athlete, for even if you go to the olympics and do well, you just get this whole "okay, what now thing?"

And after the hype around you begins to die, your brand begins to lose value, the sponsors begin to poof, and your just left to ask yourself. "okay how much do i have left with my savings?" And your only real option left is either go back to school or become a coach. And it's even worse if you weren't an olympian, or didn't do a pro circut of some sorts, for you just hit college age and life just goes. "sup nerd, time for the real world". I'd say if you are raising athletes the most important thing you can do for them is help them have a plan.
